The Local Authority’s consultation period has now come to an end and the decision of the transfer of the school site was made ultimately by the Executive Member for Education and Skills.

The Governors and staff of the school are delighted to confirm that the transfer has been approved, and we will therefore be situated in the Admiral Long building at Burnt Yates from the beginning of the autumn term 2019, being able to take full advantage of all that the site has to offer. The Governors, having taken into account parental feedback, have unanimously agreed that from September 2019 we will be called Admiral Long CE Primary School.

Welcome to our school

It is a pleasure to have this opportunity to introduce you to our school and I hope you will find the information on this website both interesting and helpful. Bishop Thornton Church of England Primary School is a village school for children aged 4 - 11 situated in the beautiful village of Bishop Thornton, just a few miles outside both the towns of Harrogate and Ripon.

We are a warm and welcoming school, very concerned with the welfare and pastoral care of our pupils as well as the academic standards they achieve. The staff endeavour to bring out the best in each child and have high expectations of pupils in terms of their learning and behaviour.

We believe that we can achieve the best for our children through close co-operation between home and School and we encourage parents to play an active part in the life of the School.

There is a strong partnership between parents, staff and Governors at Bishop Thornton CE School and our school prides itself on its strong links with the local Church and a growing involvement with the local community.

To help parents with busy lives we have close links with a local childminder as well as access to the out of school club at Birstwith School, which ensures high quality child care is available after school hours until 6.00pm. Transport is provided between the schools.

We welcome your interest in our School and warmly invite you to make an appointment to visit us.
